Twitter has finally rolled out an update to its Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app, transitioning it to a Progressive Web App (PWA). The update practically revives the Twitter app for Windows 10, which has been abandoned for quite some time and unable to receive a number of updates including the character limit extension from 140 to 280.
With this update, users will be able to receive push notifications, which means they won’t have to open the app in order to view replies to tweets or see direct messages. The PWA version also bears some resemblance to Twitter’s PWA website for mobile devices and includes all the web features of the micro-blogging site.
The PWA version of Twitter features all the latest improvements to the service as well, including the ability to bookmark tweets, the character limit increase, and a host of other changes. It remains unclear just yet, however, when the Night Mode and live tiles will come to Twitter’s PWA. Since it’s essentially a PWA, Windows 10 users won’t be left out in the cold once new changes are introduced to Twitter’s mobile website moving forward.
Twitter’s new PWA is now available to download from the Microsoft Store as an update to the existing app for Windows 10. Users might also need to log in to their account again for the purpose of re-authentication.
