Asianbangla, Dinajpur: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) seized necessary documents of the Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited (BCMCL) yesterday.
During a visit to the site, a two-member team, which arrived here on Sunday afternoon, seized the documents.
Kazi Shafiqul Alam, a director of ACC and supervisor of another three-member probe body investigating the coal scam, led the team. Shamsul Alam, deputy director, was the other visiting member.
They talked with all the officials of different tiers of BCMCL who have been working at the mine, Kazi Shafiqul Alam told reporters at the mine site.
They also visited the 17-acre coal yard, he added.
The ACC seized the documents related to production, sales and stock of last 14 years.
“We also discussed with the officials over technical issues related to production,” the director said, adding, “We tried to learn the gaps between production, stocks and sales.”
However, the ACC did not interrogate any officials but would issue letters to incumbent and former officials to that end, the director informed.
“We have asked them for more documents and we are going to get those in two days,” the director said. After scrutinising the papers, they would submit a report as early as possible, he added.
The team left for Dhaka in the afternoon.
Earlier on July 24, a five-member ACC team led by Deputy Director Benzir Ahmed visited BCMCL and found around 1.45 lakh tonnes of coal missing.
Anisur Rahman, manager (admin) of BCMCL, filed a case with Parbatipur police the same day accusing 19 officials including former managing director Habib Uddin Ahmed.
The coal scam came to light on July 16.
Petrobangla, the parent organisation of BCMCL, made Habib Uddin Ahmed OSD (officer on special duty) on July 19. He was suspended a week later.
Abu Taher Md Nuruzzaman Chowdhury, general manager (mine operations), and AKM Khaledul Islam, deputy general manager (store), were also suspended on July 19.
Besides, Abul Kashem Prodhania, general manager and company secretary, was transferred to Pashchimanchal Gas Company Limited (PGCL) in Sirajganj.
The Barapukuria 525-megawatt power plant was shut down on July 22 for lack of coal.
